    Monitor import / export shipments for timely deliveries. Coordinate recovery plans for delayed shipments. Develop and purchase returnable / expendable packaging to support mass production / service requirements.

    Responsibilities

    THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

    • Expedite clearance of goods through US Customs and schedule delivery appointments and shipments. Trace late or missing shipments and correct error lists.
    • Prepare shipments for export through bookings and preparing documentation for international shipments.
    • Maintain MELCO & Mason Invoice Log for export shipments.
    • Serve as liaison between vendors / suppliers and Mitsubishi Electric Automotive America, Inc to maximize and maintain vendor / supplier performance.
    • Prioritize and schedule ocean / air shipments based on manufacturing requirements.
    • Knowledge of US Customs laws regarding customs clearance and programs such as: Duty Drawback, Reconciliation and GSP.
    • Work closely with ocean and air forwarders plus brokers for timely deliveries and clearances.
    • Handle all exports for Japan parts from quoting to shipping.
    • Request quotes from suppliers and forwarders.
    • File insurance claims for incoming shipments and in house accidents.
    • Must be able to work independently and use resources to problem solve.
    • Support and assist the Production Control & Logistics Manager as needed.
    • Analyze specifications and market conditions to determine the best source for procurement of Mitsubishi Electric Automotive America, Inc packaging and supplies through domestic vendors.
    • Work with external vendors on the development of packaging to support model launches and mass production.
    • Submit packaging proposals to customers for approval.
    • Work with customers on recouping cost of backup expendable packaging.
    • Register and maintain packaging materials in the inventory management system, JD Edwards.
    • Set and maintain inventory of production packaging materials.
    • Keep price master up to date for packaging parts.
    • Stay up to date on customer packaging guidelines plus attend required customer meetings in regards to packaging.
    • When quality issues arise due to packaging work with customer and internal departments on investigation and resolutions.
    • Process international and domestic check requests.
    • Keep abreast of industry trends and market conditions by continuing education seminars and reading industry-related publications.

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION/SPECIAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

     

    • Ability to make independent judgment relating to the quality and value of parts and products.
    • Verbal, written, and cross-cultural communication skills, emphasizing negotiation skills.
    • Computer literate: Excel required, Microsoft Access preferred.
    • Detailed knowledge of purchasing methods and concepts, including exporting and importing materials.
    • Bachelor's Degree in Purchasing, Management, or related business area, plus a minimum of five years' experience in import/export in the automotive manufacturing industry, or equivalent.
    • Demonstrated competency with all importing and exporting activities.
    • Knowledge of international and domestic procurement methods and practices.
