  • Overview

    Lead the software engineering team in performing the functions listed below. This involves working directly with our customers as well as communicating directly with our hardware team in Japan. At times this requires travel to customer sites and to our facilities in Japan.

    Responsibilities

    • Work with the software engineering, advanced engineering, and Android platform development team in performing the following functions. It is the Architect’s role to not only lead the development, but to also perform these functions.

    Software Engineering

    • Must be able to lead software engineering team to develop future Android systems to anticipate customer needs
    • Must have a comprehensive understanding of current and future automotive systems operation (e.g. eAVB, different flavors of CAN, Etc.)
    • Must have a comprehensive understanding of Android, Android for Automotive, and Android Auto
    • Assist customers in modifying/implementing Android design

    Feature Management

    • Plan and communicate feature development with advanced engineering team leads
    • Track development shortcomings and product defects throughout the life of the program
    • Communicate information to assist hardware team in Japan

    Design Documentation

    • Develop and capture designs to achieve project goals
    • Address production shortcomings with new technical designs
    • Create new designs to address unique needs for programs

    Software Management

    • Track software release schedule and customer exectations
    • Maintain files and distribution to customer and other stakeholders

    HMI Development

    • Coordinate with HMI team(s) to evaluate and integrate application & HMI concepts on systems developed

    Requirements Management and Validation

    • Maintaining and understanding requirements documents.
    • Be able to “fill in the holes” in explaining requirements to our design team
    • Be able to creatively suggest additional features and requirements that a customer may want

    Sales Support

    • Support sales team in determining future technology strategies.
    • Support teleconference meetings with our design team in Japan (typically outside of normal working hours)
    • Limited travel to Japan for meetings with our design team.
    • Limited travel to customers’ sites for engineering meetings and presentations.
    • Analyzes current processes, procedures and systems and makes recommendations for improvement for
    • Support and make recommendations to improve Company policies and procedures.
    • Further the goals and positive, professional image of the Audio, Video and Communications group by analyzing current processes, procedures and systems and makes recommendations for improvement for own job.

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION/SPECIAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

    • BSCS, BSEE or equivalent training in Software Development
    • 6 yrs minimum experience in embedded Android software engineering
    • Supervisory experience required
    • Fluency in C, C++, JavaScript, etc is desired
    • Extensive knowledge in Android is required
    • Automotive industry experience strongly desired, experience launching Android platforms strongly desired
    • Written, verbal, and cross-cultural communication skills.
    • Computer literate, especially in Microsoft Office programs.
    • Experience with Jira, Gerrit, and Agile Software Development
